Class Description

Please join us in recognizing national Digital Inclusion Week with a compelling conversation about Digital Equity. OATS Executive Director Tom Kamber,  AARP Government Affairs Director Tim Morstad, and LBFE Digital Dividends Program Manager Chisom Nnajiofor will discuss the importance of digital inclusion in a one-hour virtual conversation, moderated by OATS Digital Equity Program Specialist Ellen Forbes. The speakers will break down how digital equity has evolved in recent years with the development of new federal funding, and how dollars support on-the-ground funding of programs for older adults.

Bios:

Ellen Forbes

Ellen Forbes is a Program Specialist at Older Adults Technology Services (OATS) from AARP, covering digital equity programming and affordable high-speed internet. Ellen’s 10-year career extends across City and Federal public policy, community development and public health infrastructure. Ellen has a Master’s in Public Health from the University of Sydney. She is based in New York City.

Tom Kamber

Tom Kamber is the founder and executive director ofOlder Adults Technology Services (OATS) and Senior Planet.He is a leading expert onaging and technology and is regularly featured in national media.Under his leadership, OATS and Senior Planet havedevelopedaward-winning programs for older adults across America andare now charitable affiliates of AARP.Tomhas taught courses on technology, urban studies, and philanthropy at Columbia University, is widely published in professional and academic journals, and has presented his work on five continents.He isalsoa co-founder of theAfro-Latin Jazz Alliance (which has won multiple Grammy awards) and serves on several nonprofit boards of directors and public commissions.

Tim Morstad

Tim Morstad is a Government Affairs Director for AARP’s Livable Communities national team. He leads AARP’s state and local advocacy for the high-speed internet, telecommunications, and transportation portfolios. In his prior position with AARP, Tim served as a senior associate state director for AARP Texas. In that capacity, he led AARP’s advocacy work on financial security and livable communities issues in Texas. Tim has 25 years of advocacy experience working for various nonprofit and governmental organizations. He has a bachelor’s in Political Science from the California Polytechnic University, Pomona, and a Master of Public Affairs from the LBJ School at University of Texas at Austin.

Chisom Nnajiofor

Chisom Nnajiofor currently serves as the Digital Dividends Program Manager at Little Brothers, Friends of the Elderly (LBFE) in Boston, where she leads initiatives focused on promoting digital literacy and bridging the technology gap for older adults. She holds a Master of Arts in Global Public Policy from Suffolk University and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Nigeria. Chisom brings a wealth of experience in program management, policy research, and public service, with a strong focus on addressing disparities in access to resources and technology.
