As soon as someone asks for money it’s over and you know you’ve been scammed. It’s difficult when you’ve developed feelings for someone and are being taken advantage of, but at least I didn’t send any $. It was time to take a deep breath and move on. Can’t say I didn’t feel stupid for a while, but I got over it .

Thanks for this great article- you are doing well and wish I had read and join you earlier before I lost $20k on another dating sites where I met an imposter and after paying all her expenses to visit me it was bill after bill until I reported to the embassy that directed my complain to the Ghana crime unit and I sent them an email(info.ghanapolice at consultant dot com) and through investigation the perpetrator was arrested and brought to justice- Beware of scam and never send money online ..

Thanks for a great article. Yes, the scammers are out there, but their approach is predictable once you know the signs. When I was using an online service, I got good at spotting the scams and reported many of them to the site. Online dating is not for everyone, but I and several other seniors I know were successful. Stay alert and be safe. It helps to have a dating buddy to vet your choices and spot red flags.

I have tried several online dating websites for persons 55 plus over many years. Lately I have been using OK Cupid. For me, they all have been mostly a waste of time and money. Best to meet face-to-face in varying settings, such as skiing and attending fund-raising events, or just by chance, such as meeting a person while walking through Grand Central Station in New York City. I have researched expensive “match-making” services. Not for me.

Only when I feel confident that they are not scammers will I offer to use FB MSGR or WhatsApp. Only after talking for quite a while will I think about meeting that person. I met my husband on-line. We have been together 12 years, married 7years. It’s not for everyone, but we are very fortunate it worked out for us.

Just be careful and safe. We spoke on the phone for a long time until we finally met.
Our first date took place in the daytime at a known location/restaurant.
