This week’s topic: Introducing Action for Happiness
Senior Planet participant Milt Haynes is on a unique mission to combat loneliness and social isolation by helping seniors discover the therapeutic power of supportive relationships. At 72 years old and a proud member of the “over the hill gang,” Milt was searching for an online community where he could meet people, make friends, and nurture friendships. He found that community at Action for Happiness (AFH), and now, he is eager to share it with others.
Action for Happiness is a global movement dedicated to increasing happiness in the world. The organization brings people together, encouraging them to take practical actions that contribute to a happier society. Milt believes that a happier world is built not only by bringing happiness to ourselves but also by spreading it to others, and AFH offers a welcoming environment where this can happen.
Bio:
Milt Haynes is a happily married African American man living in the Chicagoland area. After a 45-year career in the IT industry, he retired a few years ago and has been an empty nester for almost nine years. A techie at heart, he started virtual pen pal groups on Stitch.net, Meetup.com, and the Senior Planet Community to stay connected. To address loneliness and social isolation among seniors, he volunteers with the AARP Friendly Voice Call Center, offering companionship through friendly phone calls. In his free time, he enjoys listening to podcasts and watching TV to stay informed about world news.
